Emergency Care for Mama
Meet Mama Cat, a beautiful 10 and a half year old ball of fluff who loves belly rubs and napping on her momma's lap.
Despite her age, Mama has always been a very healthy cat, aside from a few urinary issues, which is why we knew something was off when she started going outside of her litter box and acting strangely. That was Friday evening; the vet was already closed, so we resolved to keep her nice and hydrated and visit the vet first thing Tuesday morning after the holiday weekend.
That plan flew out the window on Saturday, when we came home to find her shivering in a corner, soaked in urine. We grabbed a towel to dry her off and keep her warm, loaded her into the carrier, and rushed her to the nearest emergency vet 40 minutes away. After a few hours of pacing in a busy waiting room and waiting on bloodwork results, we learned that Mama is suffering from chronic renal failure - her kidneys aren't working the way that they should.
Despite the scary-sounding name, the vet seems confident that with some dietary changes and special care, Mama can continue to lead a happy, comfortable life, so there was no question at all about whether we would go ahead with the immediate suggested treatment, to flush her kidneys with a setup of IV fluids and antibiotics to treat the UTI that she had also contracted. This emergency care means Mama has to stay in the hospital until Tuesday morning, a total of 3 nights. As you might imagine, this means she's already racked up a pretty hefty bill.
This is why I'm asking you for help. We've set a goal of 1200 to cover just the expenses for her emergency visit so far, also keeping in mind that she's got another round of vet visits in the future to treat her kidney disease going forward. Any amount helps, as money is more than a little tight at the moment, and keeping our baby healthy and happy is the most important thing.
