On Saturday, September 6th, my fiancé Dante and I woke up to find our cat Jonesy struggling - gagging and breathing rapidly. We rushed him to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists, where we were told his heart rate was low, his gums were pale, and his skin color wasn’t normal. He was immediately placed in an oxygen chamber and given medication to help him breathe.
Imaging showed B-lines in his lungs, meaning he could be battling asthma, infection, or even heart failure. Jonesy is only 1 year old, and we knew we had to do everything possible to save him. Thankfully, his heart looked normal, and breathing treatments gave him some relief. But then he suffered a severe adverse reaction to a sedative, which sent him into respiratory distress again.
To make things harder, imaging also showed something in his stomach that could be a foreign object. An ultrasound was planned, but when the vet tried to sedate him again, he went into respiratory distress once more, forcing them to abort the procedure. For now, Jonesy must remain in the ER until his breathing stabilizes before they can even begin addressing the stomach issue.
We are devastated. Our home feels empty without him. Our three other cats miss him, and we are heartbroken watching him go through this.
Financially, we are overwhelmed. We’ve already maxed out our CareCredit, even after requesting increases, and his pet insurance will only cover up to $5,000. With multiple overnight stays, emergency care, more testing ahead, and possible foreign body removal surgery we are facing bills far beyond what we can manage alone.
Jonesy is the sweetest, most perfect boy, and he deserves a chance to come home to us. If you’re able to donate, even a few dollars, it would mean the world to us. Every bit will go directly to his care. If you prefer, you can also donate directly toward Jonesy’s bill by calling Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists and referencing his account. If you can’t donate, please share his story.
Thank you so much for helping us fight for Jonesy.
