URGENT!!! Trotters On The Tallgrass Pig Sanctuary needs our help!
Trotters On The Tallgrass is a pig sanctuary in Minnesota run by Donna Knauber and her husband, John.
At the beginning of March, disaster struck the sanctuary when a heavy snow load collapsed the roof of the main barn. Amazingly none of the 25 sanctuary residents were hurt, but now they have no shelter from the extreme elements of the prairies. All the stored hay and straw is also out in the open.
The building is a total loss. The 40 X 80 Quonset hut was used for pig housing and feed storage, meal prep, hay and straw storage and sick/isolation rooms. Now the remains need to be removed – a delicate and dangerous task – and a new barn built.
The goal is to build a 30-foot X 40- or 50- foot pole barn, with insulation, water and electricity and also prepare the location against flooding concerns.
The total bill for this new work: $60,000 USD.
About Donna Knauber and Trotters On the Tallgrass
Donna has been rescuing pigs for 25 years and is widely recognized in in the North Americacn pig-rescue community as a wise and compassionate porcine matriarch and angel of mercy.
She’s given her retirement years and dollars to running the Sanctuary. Her husband, John, is semi-retired. The duo are on a fixed income, so a disaster like this is well outside of their budget.
This is where we come in: Let us help them build a new barn for these and future rescued pigs and give them a safe and happy home!
