Hi, my name is Nikki and I'm a single mother doing everything I can to keep my family afloat. Right now, I'm facing one of the hardest times of my life, and I’m putting my pride aside to ask for help.

Since February, I’ve been unemployed and actively seeking work. To make matters more difficult, my ex-husband of 21 years refuses to help me financially because I finally chose myself and walked away from a painful, toxic situation. I lost my only means of transportation when my ex took the vehicle. Without a car, it's been nearly impossible to secure new employment or attend interviews unless I find a remote position. Right now, I have no support system—no backup, nobody I can lean on. It’s just me trying to keep my kids and I from becoming homeless.

I have 2 children still at home. One is entering college in August and my youngest is an 8-year-old with special needs who requires my full attention and care when he’s tracked out of school. I’m mentally exhausted with rent and bills overdue. I’m on the verge of losing everything I’ve worked so hard for.

I never imagined I’d be in this situation, but here I am, being vulnerable, courageous and humbled in asking for help—it's not easy, but I’m doing what I need to do for my family, asking for help. I’ve exhausted all other options, and I’m at a breaking point. Lately, I’ve been depressed and overwhelmed, but I’m holding on for my children. I’m asking for help—not out of weakness, but out of the strength it takes to keep going when everything feels like it’s falling apart. I know times are hard for everyone but at this point, ”A closed mouth won’t get fed. Any amount, no matter how small, will make a difference in helping us stay housed and begin to rebuild.
