Emergency Assistance 4 Andrea Martin -Anja Afreeca

Donation protected
UPDATE:
Hello and thank you to all that have taken the time to share this fundraiser and donate towards the emergency medical care for Andrea Martin aka Anja Afreeca in The Gambia and for the potential efforts to have her air transported back to the United States for advanced medical care.

It is with deep, deep sadness and sorrow that we are letting everyone know that as of late last night Andrea Martin aka Anja Afreeca has passed away due to the complications of her critical condition. This money raised will be used solely to pay for her outstanding medical bills and burial cost. If any additional funds are available, it will be used to bring her son or immediate family to The Gambia for funeral services. None of the funds raised will be used for personal gain.

The family and friends that have assisted tirelessly on the ground caring for Andrea daily and those that worked behind the scenes making calls and strategizing to get her back to the USA, we thank you with so much love and kindness.

To all that donated, thank you from the bottom of our hearts. This is a deep time of sorrow for those who love her. We only wish to complete her transition to her final resting place and not burden her son (a college student) with the added worry of figuring out how to pay for her final expenses.

Thank you again for all of your love!

UPDATE: 2/11/2024
Thank you to all who donated and participated in the broadcast today! Since our beautiful Sister has transitioned, we have updated the amount since the need for medical air transport is no longer needed. We will continue to clear the debt of the outstanding medical expenses, funeral, burial cost and travel for immediate family to partake in the celebration of life and homegoing of Andrea Martin, aka Anja Afreeca!

Original Fundraiser Summary:
Shortly after January 1st, our cherished sister and friend, Andrea Martin, also known as "Anja Afreeca,"who hails from Reading, PA where she spent roughly 20 years of her life, was hospitalized in The Gambia due to deteriorating health conditions. Her health has worsened progressively, evolving from dehydration to pneumonia and encountering further complications, prompting the community to rally support to ensure she receives the necessary care. Currently, Andrea requires intensive, round-the-clock attention and is unable to walk or consume food normally, relying on tube feeding conducted daily by women from the community. She is experiencing complete paralysis and urgently needs to be transported from Gambia to New York for advanced medical treatment. At 56 years old and unmarried, Andrea's situation is dire, and we are urgently appealing for assistance to facilitate her immediate transfer out of Gambia.
