Emergency Appeal: Help Us Care for 10 Orphaned Babies

Donation protected
At Libassa Wildlife Sanctuary in Liberia, we are facing an urgent challenge. Within the past week, we received three more orphaned baby monkeys, bringing our total to 10 babies. Each of these babies has suffered deeply—stolen from the wild, torn from their mothers, and kept in deplorable conditions.

Now safe with us, they are receiving the love, nutrition, and medical attention they so desperately need—but this level of care is intense, time-consuming, and costly. We are urgently seeking funding to help us provide milk, food, medicine, heating, and shelter, and to expand our nursery to accommodate this growing group.

All of these babies are still on milk, many needing to be fed every 2 hours. They are vulnerable, in various stages of recovery, and rely entirely on our team for survival.

Why we need your help

Caring for these ten babies is a full-time job for our team. They require milk every few hours, special formulas, heating pads, soft bedding, medical care, and nutritious food. Many are still on intensive medication to treat infections, parasites, dehydration, or trauma. The pangolin milk is nog available in Liberia and has to be imported from Europe.

On top of this, our nursery is no longer big enough to accommodate this growing group. We need to expand with more baby enclosures to ensure each monkey has a safe, clean, and comfortable environment.

General costs:
Baby monkey: 60-70USD per month
Baby pangolin: 40-50USD per month
3 new baby enclosures: 3x 150USD

Your donation will help us:
• Purchase milk formula, fruits, and other dietary needs
• Buy medications and treatment supplies
• Invest in heating equipment and clean bedding
• Build additional baby monkey enclosures for space and safety
• Cover the cost of 24/7 care from our dedicated staff

Meet the babies you’re helping:

Julie Female Green Monkey
Julie arrived just in a heartbreaking state—completely dehydrated, emaciated, covered in fleas, and suffering from multiple infections. She was unconscious and barely alive when she reached us. She is so thin she cannot maintain her body temperature and needs constant warmth from heating elements. Julie is on several medications and receiving milk and food every 2 hours

FasuMale Lesser Spot-Nosed Monkey
Fasu has lost nearly all of his hair due to severe malnutrition and was extremely dehydrated on arrival. Thankfully, he’s accepting his milk and food well and is now on a steady path to recovery. He’s currently receiving milk every 2 hours and is being kept inside for close monitoring.

PlayMale Lesser Spot-Nosed Monkey
Play arrived with no visible injuries but keeps his head tilted to one side—likely the result of trauma. As he grows more comfortable with us, we’re seeing him slowly start to hold his head upright. Like the others, he is receiving milk every 2 hours and is being cared for inside both day and night.

VanessaFemale Sooty Mangabey
Vanessa is beginning to bond with our older sooty mangabey orphans and spends her days with them, though she still sleeps indoors at night. She is currently receiving milk 4 times a day.

TreasureFemale Sooty Mangabey
Treasure spends her days outdoors with her best friend Kozie but still sleeps indoors. She is still very young and receives milk every 2 hours during the day.

KozieMale Sooty Mangabey
Kozie and Treasure are inseparable. Like Treasure, he sleeps inside and is still being fed milk every 2 hours.

ZazouMale Lesser Spot-Nosed Monkey
Zazou is now spending his days outside with Lola, where they’ve begun socializing with their future monkey family. He is thriving but still requires milk every 2 hours, to get him to grow into a healthy juvenile.

LolaFemale Lesser Spot-Nosed Monkey
Lola, like Zazou, is active and curious. She is part of the same group and also receives milk every 2 hours while sleeping indoors at night.

MAF - Male White Bellied Pangolin
MAF arrived with us a couple of weeks back. He has some damaged scales and was very hungry on arrival. Now he is thriving and loving his walks, but he is still a young baby and needs milk every 4 hours day and night.

Toothless - Female White Bellied Pangolin
Toothless arrived only a couple of days after MAF. She is around the same age as him and arrived with a badly infected eye. Her eye is improving with treatment and it has been wonderful to see them growing side by side. She too is enjoying her walks, but is still relying on milk every 4 hours day and night.

These little ones have survived unthinkable trauma. Now, they need your help to not only survive but to heal and grow into strong, healthy monkeys who can one day return to the wild.

Please consider donating today. Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference in the lives of these babies. Thank you for helping us give them a second chance.
