The humanitarian crisis in Ukraine is deepening with food, water, medicine and protective gear growing increasingly scarce as Russian forces intensify their shelling of major cities.
I was born in Ukraine and over the past decade I have travelled back there every year to see family and friends. With many of my very close friends and family there right now, I have no words that can describe how I feel about this horrific situation. Although we are working to get some of my family out of the country, most are either not able to leave or have chosen to stay to protect their homeland.
As a team we have established this relief fund in response to this devastating emergency. Our goal is to raise as much as possible with 100% of the funds going directly to people affected by the crisis. Your donation will provide transportation, shelter, protective gear, food and medicine, including infant supplies and emergency cash assistance to help families in need.
Given our close links and communication to those on the ground, we believe we are best placed to provide assistance to people exactly where they need it and we know that 100% of the donations will go directly to the people in Ukraine.
Due to the increasing scarcity of supplies in Ukraine, I have close friends in Poland who is transporting these supplies from Poland directly into Ukrainian communities. My friends in Ukraine are then distributing these supplies to help those in need.
Ukraine has a population of 44 million people. It’s estimated that since the invasion over 3 million people have fled Ukraine for neighbouring countries. However, there are still many more families – mainly women, children, and the elderly – that need to be evacuated from Ukraine to Poland. Teams evacuating these families require urgent financial support to undertake this selfless work so they can guide as many people to safety as quickly as possible.
So how can you help right now?
- $40 will provide one sleeping bag
- $70 will provide food and a hygiene pack to one adult for 2 weeks
- $140 will provide the opportunity for one person to be transported to safety from Ukraine to Poland
- $160 will provide food and hygiene packs to a family of four for 2 weeks
- $200 will provide a bulletproof helmet for one person
- $700 - $1,000 will provide a bulletproof vest for one person
- $3,000 will provide a basic emergency medicine pack for 100 people
- Financial support will be provided for any additional items required
These are the key items required right now by Ukrainians for their protection and survival. These items are being distributed to communities in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Cherkasy & Chernihiv.
In this time of great sadness, it is so meaningful to watch not just those with Ukrainian background, but the entire community, unite and rally to help those in need. Your donations will go a long way to caring for the people in Ukraine – words cannot express how much your support means during these devastating times. Every donation will make a massive difference. Thank you for your support!
