Emergency Aid Requested: Support Nepalese Gen-Z Victims

Donation protected
Nepalese Victims Need Us
On September 8, 2025, Nepal faced one of its darkest days. What began as peaceful demonstrations in Kathmandu and beyond turned into tragedy when police opened fire on unarmed crowds, many of them teenagers still in their school uniforms. At least 19 young lives were lost, and more than 100 people were critically injured.

The National Trauma Centre in Kathmandu reported wards overflowing with patients suffering from head and chest gunshot wounds. Doctors worked through the night with limited supplies, some performing emergency surgery without proper anesthesia. Civil Hospital and Everest Hospital were forced to turn away non-critical patients to prioritize the wounded. Families lined the hallways, begging for news of their children.

Perhaps most heartbreaking, when citizens organized emergency blood drives, reports surfaced of authorities obstructing donations, leaving hospitals scrambling for safe blood supplies while injured students lay waiting. Parents were left helpless, watching their children fight for their lives with no guarantee of care.

The Victims
The victims were not criminals or agitators. They were students, sons, and daughters.
A 16-year-old boy was shot in the chest while carrying his schoolbag.
A 19-year-old girl who volunteered at her local library is now paralyzed from a spinal injury.
Young protesters were beaten and detained simply for chanting against censorship.

These were Nepal’s Generation Z, demanding nothing more than their right to speak, learn, and dream freely. The use of tear gas, water cannons, and live ammunition against these youths has shaken Nepal to its core.

Why We Are Fundraising
My name is Ishan, and I am the founder of this GoFundMe page. I am a high school senior in Maryland, and for a while my friends and I have been wanting to raise funds in Nepal to help build schools in rural areas. In fact, we were only days from beginning the fundraising process, but that plan was cut short by the tragic events of September 8. If we just sat by and waited to start raising funds for schools while children are being silenced in the streets for speaking out, what purpose would those schools serve?

That is why my friends and I launched this campaign. We may be far from Nepal, but we cannot stay silent. The diaspora has a duty to step up to provide relief, amplify voices, and support those who risked everything for justice, freedom, and democracy. We have to spread awareness and use platforms like social media, because unfortunately, not everyone shares the same privilege.

The Situation Today
The crisis is not over. In fact, it is worsening. Protests have spread across the Kathmandu Valley, with fires burning in the streets and entire neighborhoods blanketed in smoke.

Doctors warn that respiratory complications are rising as tear gas and fire smoke choke communities, putting children and the elderly in further danger. Hospitals remain under siege, running dangerously low on medicine and oxygen. Many injured are still waiting for proper treatment. Families continue to risk everything just to search for missing loved ones. Every day that passes without international and diaspora support deepens the suffering.

Who We Are
This campaign is led by Ishan Maratha, a high school senior in Maryland, together with co-organizers Dilan Goel (senior) and Aadi D. (senior). We are supported by a dedicated team, Nirav D., Shuvab A., and Ojas D., who assist with outreach, communications, and community engagement.

As young members of the Nepali diaspora, we believe it is our responsibility to stand with Nepal’s youth during this crisis. Each of us brings our networks, skills, and energy to ensure this fundraiser is transparent, impactful, and rooted in both compassion and accountability.

Our Goal
We are setting an initial target of $9,000 by September 18. Meeting this milestone will allow us to send immediate relief to hospitals and families while keeping momentum alive for larger goals.

How Funds Will Be Used
1. Support for Families of Victims (40% = $3,600)
We are prioritizing families who have lost loved ones or suffered severe damage to their lives. Funds will cover funeral costs, temporary food and shelter, and basic financial assistance to help them get by in the immediate aftermath. Our team has already begun contacting several families directly, and we are continuing to reach out as more victims are identified. This ensures that the funds go straight to those most in need, with no unnecessary delays.

2. Hospitals & Medical Relief (30% = $2,700)
We are committed to strengthening hospitals that are overwhelmed with patients. We have established direct communication with Ohm Hospital as well as one other hospital within the valley. These hospitals are in urgent need of funds for medication, oxygen cylinders, blood supplies, and equipment. Because we are able to transfer funds directly to these institutions (without going through a third party), the support reaches them faster and with full transparency. We will provide documentation of transfers to ensure accountability.

3. Nepali Red Cross Partnership (15% = $1,350)
A portion of the funds will be allocated to the Nepali Red Cross. This organization has existing networks for disaster response and the infrastructure to mobilize aid quickly. By partnering with them, we are able to complement our direct family and hospital support with broader community relief that covers areas we cannot directly reach.

4. GoFundMe Fees (≈3% = $270)
GoFundMe charges approximately 2.9% + $0.30 per donation. Setting aside this portion ensures that the full intended $9,000 in donor contributions is properly distributed, without hidden deductions.

5. Emergency Reserve & Logistics (12% = $1,080)
We have designated a reserve for transportation of supplies, on-the-ground volunteer costs (such as food and water while working), and emergency needs that may arise as the situation develops. Having this flexible allocation ensures we can respond quickly to urgent requests that may not fit neatly into the above categories.
Where the Money Will Go
Funds will be disbursed directly to the Nepal Red Cross for emergency relief, hospitals treating the wounded such as the National Trauma Centre, Civil Hospital, and Ohm Hospital. The funds will also be prioritized to be sent to families who lost loved ones, and as the victims are being confirmed, we are actively approaching contact with families in need currently.

We commit to full transparency. Once disbursements begin, we will publish accounting records and receipts so every donor can see exactly how their gift was used.

Simplified Donor Impact
$25 provides basic medicines for one patient.
$50 supports trauma care for an injured protester.
$100 covers a funeral or one week of food for a family in mourning.
$500 supplies a fully stocked trauma bed.
$1,000 or more funds family stipends and medical or legal aid for multiple victims.

Closing Message
Every contribution, no matter the size, will save lives and bring comfort. Your support ensures hospitals are stocked, families are supported, and youth have hope for tomorrow. Donate today to stand with Nepal’s Gen Z victims. Share this link widely. Your network could be the reason a child gets medicine, food, or shelter.

We in the diaspora have the freedom to raise our voices without fear. In Nepal, young people are being killed for doing the same. Together, we can turn grief into action and ensure that when the time comes to rebuild schools, there will still be children alive to learn in them.

**Update: Over $3,000 Raised in Less Than 4 days **

We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this fundraiser so far. In less than one day, we have raised over $3,000, and that would not have been possible without your generosity and belief in this cause. Every donation, share, and message of encouragement fuels us to keep going.

Behind the scenes, we are working hard to make sure these funds are used responsibly and effectively. We have established communication with two major hospitals already, as well as actively contacting the families who were affected. As more victims are being found, we are going to reach out to more families in days coming.

To amplify our impact, we have built out dedicated social media pages to broaden our outreach to a larger audience. If you want to check them out, the link will be down below.

This is only the beginning, and together we are proving what is possible when communities unite. Please continue to share the fundraiser link with your networks — every share helps us take one step closer to our first milestone of $9,000 by September 18.

From our entire team, thank you for standing with Nepal’s youth in their time of need.
