Can you imagine having a comfortable and safe home and then losing almost everything you own in the blink of an eye? That's what happened to the Whitfields this week.
Barbara and her family lost their home to a fire on February 9, 2021.
Barbara is a breast cancer survivor with an autistic son and a young adult daughter who just finished high school.

Everyone is safe and sound and very thankful for that. But they lost almost everything they own to fire, smoke, and water damage. They do have a working car, but it's not reliable. Thanks to the pandemic, Barbara's home was also her workplace. They have secured temporary lodging, but only for a week. The pandemic rental market is difficult to navigate, and rental prices are much higher than what they were paying for the home they'd been in for years. Finding affordable permanent housing is going to be a challenge for this family.
Some funds have already been raised through community efforts and another fundraiser, but it takes so much money to replace everything for a whole family who was already operating with very little safety net. If you can imagine what you would need to replace if the only thing you had were the clothes on your back, you know exactly how quickly that can add up. Things accumulated over years all have to be replaced at the same time. But first, Barbara has to put a roof over her family's head.
Let's help them with funds for replacing clothes, furniture, and household items.
Funds raised will also help with extending temporary housing and gathering deposits and move-in expenses for a new home.
The more we can raise for this family, the more we ensure their stability and their ability to rebound in these unstable times.

At this time, because their housing situation is unsure, it is best to give funds if possible rather than donating items. Once they family has secured housing , we will adjust this fundraising goal as needed, and we will post a list of material items that can be donated. Until then, all financial support is helpful as the Whitfields make their way through this difficult time.
