Emergency Aid for Abraham's Family Displaced by Fire

On February 1st, there was a fire at Rolling Hills that affected other units around the fire. Abraham and I lived in an apartment at 31 Tanager Rd on the third floor. Our unit was affected and is now uninhabitable for 1 year, they say. His mother’s homeowner insurance has us up in a hotel until the 12th, but if the apartment won’t be livable for 1 year, we have to find other shelter after the 12th if we don’t get a response or next location from adjustor.

I am disabled and get funded monthly and have bills, baby formula, and food, including diapers and wipes, I pay for constantly. We literally spent $177 on groceries the day of the fire before the fire broke out, and most of our groceries aren’t salvageable. We have to empty the fridge. We talked to HRC/DSS can’t help us unless we have $0 dollars and we can’t just be at $0 with an 8 month old child. We put in 3 housing applications with my case manager through access now we just have to wait and see if they get a response. She put an “urgency” matter on the applications so hopefully something comes through for us.

We have our 8-month-old son, and I’m in my second trimester with my second child. I really don’t like to ask for help, especially not financially, but I have to think about food if we have to be in hotels that don’t have stoves. We have to be able to get food we can actually eat or prepare, even microwaveable, and maybe some funds for a few extra nights after the 12th. If anyone could help, even if it’s small or even just share the post, that would be helpful.

If anyone knows of food drives that won’t have me standing in the freezing cold for hours, those resources would be great too, or ones that deliver the food pantry items or allow you to wait in your car, that would be great information to get. Also, if anyone knows where Red Cross will be this week, that would be helpful information. Any kind of help would be great; it doesn’t have to be funds. It could be being pointed in the right direction of resource information that could help us. Even if you know someone that is offering temporary housing to people, that would be great as well.

We just really need to find the right resources and numbers or addresses to go to so we can get the right kind of help because it’s been hard on all of us and all the other families that were affected. Please keep our family and all the other families in your prayers.
