Un incendio devastador en el edificio donde vivían mis sobrinos David Escobar Martínez y Aleydrith Oriana Pulido, junto a sus dos hijos pequeños, destruyó por completo su hogar en Islington Ave, Etobicoke. Perdieron absolutamente todo y, lamentablemente, no contaban con seguro.

En este momento están en un alojamiento temporal proporcionado por la Cruz Roja, ya que su apartamento quedó inhabitable. Sin embargo, deben seguir pagando la renta del lugar siniestrado para no perderlo, además de cubrir la vivienda temporal mientras se hacen las reparaciones, que se estima tomarán más de 5 meses.

Para empeorar la situación, ahora enfrentan cargos civiles, responsabilizándolos por los daños, aunque no estaban en la unidad cuando ocurrió el incendio. Solo los honorarios legales para su defensa superan los $20,000 CAD, y necesitan otros $20,000 CAD para cubrir la renta durante estos meses críticos.

Si llegaran a ser declarados culpables, los daños podrían superar los $100,000 CAD (solo en su unidad se estiman entre $70,000 y $100,000, sin contar los apartamentos vecinos).

A devastating fire in the building where my nephews David Escobar Martínez and Aleydrith Oriana Pulido lived, along with their two young children, completely destroyed their home on Islington Ave, Etobicoke. They lost absolutely everything and, unfortunately, did not have insurance.

They are currently staying in temporary housing provided by the Red Cross, as their apartment is uninhabitable. However, they must still pay rent for the damaged unit to avoid losing it, in addition to covering the cost of temporary housing while repairs are made — repairs that are expected to take more than five months.

To make matters worse, they are now facing civil charges holding them responsible for the damages, even though they were not in the unit when the fire occurred. Just the legal fees for their defense exceed $20,000 CAD, and they need another $20,000 CAD to cover rent during these critical months.

If they are found liable, damages could exceed $100,000 CAD (their unit alone is estimated between $70,000 and $100,000, not including neighboring apartments).
