Sandy Hook Emerald Sketch Art therapy
Donation protected
The Sandy Hook Emerald Sketch Art therapy Response Team (SHES ART) is a group of licensed and board certified art therapists providing an art therapy session series to children, adults, and families in the Sandy Hook, Newtown, Connecticut community.
The immediate need is to gain enough funding to establish a consistent location. We have been providing groups at the Cyrenius H. Booth Library, private homes, and the Healing Newtown Artspace. The library Summer hours are limited and the Healing Newtown Artspace has closed it's doors.
SHES ART has been assessing the needs of the community and volunteering clinical services and administrative abilities from since December. Currently over fifty families identify a need for services due to symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder or vicarious trauma.
If funding and space allow we intend to collaborate with Connecticut Music Therapy Services, LLC and independent dance/movement therapists.
In addition to maintaining programming for the Sandy Hook, Newtown community the long term goals of The Emerald Sketch, LLC include: Educational outreach, and Global networking.
Production of a film documentary on the history of and how the creative arts therapies heal symptoms of trauma.
Increase collaboration with multiple organizations to implement a working system engaging prepared and trained creative arts therapists to volunteer immediate crisis response services in the event of social traumas and natural disasters in most communities.
