On June 28th 2019, our 13 month old daughter was diagnosed with a rare malignant( cancerous) tumor, called a neuroblastoma. In neuroblastoma, the mutations affect immature nerve cells in a baby still in the womb. The cells are called neuroblasts. As the baby continues to grow before birth, the neuroblasts mature into functioning nerve cells. In a healthy baby, the neuroblasts go away completely as the nervous system matures. But in babies with this condition, the mutated neuroblasts stick around and form a tumor. The tumor is the size of a grape fruit in Ember. We are undergoing surgery today, July 8th 2019. Until pathology comes back from surgery, bilateral bone marrow biopsies, and lymph node sampling-we will not know if chemotherapy or radiation is needed yet. Although, the hemoc team is hopeful she will not need either. Unfortunately, as blessed as we have been, we are going to need help financially, between taking off of work and the medical bills coming in. Thank you in advance for everything!
