Dear Friends & Family.

As you may know my brother Lance Johnson has been recently diagnosed with prostate cancer. As a tennis professional, the disease has impacted his ability to work and support himself and his family. 

Currently, we are trying our best to support Lance as he strives to beat cancer, but our family is struggling to cover the cost of his lost wages and to supplement his income. Any donations on behalf of Lance will go directly to helping pay for life-saving treatments and to cover the costs of transportation, food, care, and living expenses. 

Many of you know Lance for his work in the tennis community, salsa dancing or through his work helping kids and families in communities across the San Francisco Bay Area. Please share this humble request within your close friends and family communities. A little bit goes a long way, and each donation ensures that Lance’s financial needs are met as he on his journey to beat cancer.

For those that may not know my brother Lance Johnson, he is an accomplished and highly sought after tennis professional, with the unique gift of developing and inspiring new talent, and delivering winning performance results for some of the best in the sport. 

As my older brother, I’ve always looked up to him for his ability to accomplish so much in his life, from his degree from UC Berkeley, to being an amazing father to his children, to always encouraging me to achieve my own goals. -and in my opinion, even being a great salsa dancer!

To truly know Lance is to also know he is always active and shows up with unparalleled commitment to his tennis clients and the kids and families in the communities serves. So, to first see my brother’s declining mobility and finances related to chronic hip pain, and the pandemic, over the last few years has been pretty scary. However, my spirits were lifted when the pandemic ended and my brother advised this Spring of the double hip replacement surgery that was scheduled for May…

Then came the shock of a lifetime. My brother’s pre-surgery bloodwork came back indicating prostate cancer, and his hip replacement surgery had to be placed on hold. My heart broke for my brother who would now not only have to remain in chronic pain all that much longer, but also now endure the increased financial, physical and emotional impacts that come along with battling cancer…

Lance has a unique brand of determination, strength, and a generous heart at all times. Since my brother and I were little kids with our Toys R Us tennis rackets, being an athlete, tennis player, and being active has been at the core of my brother’s heart. So, I’m doing everything I can to help return him to fully healed and active life!

This a vulnerable and humbling moment for our family, but we believe our love, mindset and faith are big enough to win the cancer battle (and to eventually beat the chronic hip pain with surgery). All support from our beloved friends and family communities whether a kind thought, prayer or donation is integral on this journey and deeply appreciated.
