Hi my name is Katie. I’m fundraising for my niece, Evelyn, and her family.
- On March 21, my sister, Ashley, took her 2 yr old girl, Evelyn, to the doctor for a quick appt to check out a rash and some bruising. They were told to go to the ER for some blood work. Little did they know, an ambulance would be arranged to take them to Iowa city that night as they’re being told the devastating words “Evelyn likely has Leukemia.”
- Her white blood cells were up to 81,000. (Normal range 5,500-10,000). Platelets at 6k (normal 250k-500k). She had some blood transfusions right away. After several tests, Evelyn was diagnosed with , .
- On March 23, she had surgery for bone marrow, lumbar puncture with chemo treatment and port placement.
- She began her treatments right away.
- The first night of treatments she had a temperature of 104 and some vomiting, so antibiotics were started.
- As of today, March 27, she’s still in the hospital, dealing with high blood pressure, and feeling lethargic.
- She is in good hands at University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
Ashley and Andrew are putting their daughter first, and need to be with her at this time. She’ll spend days, weeks, months at a time in the hospital and they will be there with her during it all. Treatments will be given over a course of 2 1/2 years.
We don’t want them stressing about expenses of transportation, food, taking care of bills at home, hospital bills, medications, etc. during their time off work.
