Hello, my name is Elwanda. I have recently been diagnosed with stage four cancer. This diagnosis has been an absolute shock for me. I was having some problems that I thought were hemorrhoid flares, but unfortunately, I was mistaken. I had a routine colonoscopy which discovered a “suspicious mass.” A biopsy was done at that time, and it came back positive for cancer. Devastating news for me to hear, especially being told it is stage four cancer. I have gone through many tests in the past few weeks: a PET scan, CT scan, MRI, and a liver biopsy. All of these came back positive for cancer; it has spread to my liver as well as my stomach. I have begun chemo treatment, and I am tolerating it well at this time. I’m continuing to work at my job and plan to do so for as long as I can.

I’m asking for assistance as you can imagine the medical bills are beginning to mount. I am the sole provider for my household, so needless to say, it’s been very difficult to manage everything. In the middle of this diagnosis and tests, I lost my grandmother. I have been her caregiver for years, and it has been very difficult to think about myself while grieving for her. I had a small savings, but I had to use it for her homegoing. All that being said, my situation has been one devastating experience after another.
