Elvis Needs Emergency Surgery
Donation protected
Hi friends,
My name is Crystal and my cat Elvis is need of emergency surgery and I need help to raise the funds to pay for it.
I never thought I would need to be making one of these but here we are. I need your help.
It came out of nowhere and it’s been a real shock to the system to process. On March 9th he had a regular dental cleaning and they found two teeth that needed to be extracted. He was on the mend from this basic surgery and perfectly fine for 5 days but on the 6th day he was eating his breakfast and perhaps ate too fast causing him to vomit. As soon as this happened he began to inflate with air in his face, neck, and head. I felt it and it felt like crackling paper so I rushed him to the vet that did the procedure from last week and we were turned away because they had too many animals to look after already. We got into another Uber and rushed him to the nearest animal hospital straight away. They took some X-rays and did a full physical right away and discovered that the vomiting has torn his trachea and air is leaking underneath his skin and in and around his heart. They recommended us to leave him overnight for observation to see if it might heal on its own or require another surgery to fix. One hour later, we brought in his blanket to give him something that smelt like home to keep him comfy, and when we arrived they told us that he had fractured his mandible on the kennel after they inserted the catheter and needs to be transferred to another specialist hospital to get a dental surgery to fix this immediate problem. After consulting with the doctors over there they have told us that they can’t fix his jaw because they can’t intubate him with a torn trachea currently. So he’s been waiting to see the specialists to see if they can plan out a way to help our furry little baby in the best way.
We don’t have a definitive number on how much this will cost us just yet but the vet has quoted us a very rounded estimate around 15-20k. So once we have more information our goal will get more precise.
Our insurance will only cover 20% of this massive bill and so I’m asking and praying for help. I want to focus my energy on my poor little Elvis but it’s hard when this looms overhead. Anything will help us out of this very unexpected tight spot and I’m eternally grateful for anyone and everyone’s help through this extremely tough and shocking time in our lives.
Elvis is a tough and strong boy and I believe he can make it through this.
