To know her was to love her… no one would disagree. Elva Mae Horn lived an amazing 93 years and touched hundreds of lives. Known to her family and friends as Mom, Maw, Nana, Grandma, Coder, Aunt Elva, Cutes, Dutch, and more… Miss Elva held a place of honor in our family, as well as with the church she loved so dearly. Elva was the matriarch of the Christian Church of Lemon Grove where she and her beloved Jim began attending in 1988 when they returned to San Diego after a short stay in Chino, CA. Her daughter, Sue Rush, continues her service there as a Deacon. Pop, as she called him, passed away in 1996, and Elva continued to serve the Lord there until her health prevented her from attending in late 2022. However, thanks to live streaming, she was able to feel their love from the comfort of her home until she passed on February 18, 2023. It was her wish to give back to this church that meant so much to her, so the family has arranged with them a special place near the main cross to create a small garden for reflection and prayer. We hope to install a concrete table with benches in the shade of the trees for folks to sit and perhaps remember our dear Miss Elva.
This is not a charity request, we are merely helping this wonderful little church to create a memorial space as gratitude to the family that came into their lives. Any funds exceeding these costs will be put toward the church’s general fund. So in lieu of flowers, or if you feel inclined to honor Miss Elva and the family, know that all donations are greatly appreciated.
