Elroy and his 5 siblings were abandoned in a cardboard box by a shrimp dock on Tybee Island Georgia in June. His brothers and sisters are doing great and have all been adopted. Elroy just seemed to stop growing though, and never seemed quite right.
Through a series of tests, we have discovered that Elroy has a liver shunt (an intrahepatic portosystemic shunt), and that’s the cause of his problems.
This is a very rare condition, affecting 2.5 cats out of every 10,000. Way to go, Elroy, you are very unique.
There is a procedure to fix this problem he was born with, and that is the purpose of this fundraiser. A specialist surgeon at the University of Florida can perform something called a Percutaneous Transvenous Coil Embolization (PTCE). The estimate is $8,000 (which includes a CT scan, the procedure itself, and his hospital stay).
Elroy is the sweetest, friendliest kitten—he loves people, other cats and dogs. He is a professional biscuit maker and purrs all the time. There is no kitten more deserving of a chance to live a normal life.
The cost is very intense, but I thought perhaps with a far-reaching crowd sourced fundraiser, we can get there. The surgeon would like for Elroy to be 7 months old for the procedure, so there’s 2 months to fundraise for this wonderful kitten.
If there’s a will there’s a way?
