Meet Elora Lynn… she is your typical 4 year old girl who loves to dance, sing, and play with her older brother. She also enjoys watching Tom and Jerry, playing with our dogs, and riding her bike.
At first glance, she’s like any ordinary child, however, she was born with a rare congenital heart defect called Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome or HLHS, in other words, the left side of her heart is underdeveloped.
When we first learned about her condition, my wife was 6 weeks pregnant. Because of the multiple open-heart surgeries Elora would have to undergo and the possibility that she may not have a “normal life”, we were asked to make a decision about how we wanted to proceed with the pregnancy. Although this was a very difficult situation, our decision was easy… we wanted to give Elora a chance to live.
Her childhood has been very different than most. When Elora was 5 days old, she had her first open-heart surgery (Norwood Procedure). At 3 months old, she had her second (Glenn Procedure). In November 2016, she will be having her third and hopefully final surgery (Fontan Procedure).
Elora is our hero and our reminder to never take life for granted. Even though she was born with half of heart, it’s full of life and love.
Your donation will be used to cover for any out of pocket expenses that we will incur during her Fontan procedure. We’re hoping that with your help, we won’t have to worry about any financial stress so that we can focus on Elora.
Thank you for your time and donation.
