Ellie's Road To Recovery!
On November 5th Ellie was admitted into Banner Cardon's Children's Center with difficulty breathing. A Happy and otherwise healthy baby, Ellie's stay at Cardon's turned out to be a little longer than expected...
On November 11th nearing a full week of questions, no definite answers, poking, prying, IV's, medications, oxygen, scary tests and lots of stress we got a little closer to answers.
Ellie's bronchoscopy came back positive for a fungus called Pneumocystis Pneumonia, or PCP. This is something that is commonly found in people, but our immune systems can easily fight it off and it is undetected. With that being said, Ellie is immunodeficient. After speaking with an infectious disease physician and an immunologist, Ellie's diagnosis is thought possible to be secondary to SCID-Severe Combined Immunodeficiency, a rare and serious disease treated by bone marrow transplant. Ellie from here will be started on antibiotics and sterioids awaiting definitive results that should arrive in about a week. If Ellie's blood work comes back positive for SCID her and her family will have to go to California for further treatments and her bone marrow operation. Either way Ellie and her family have a long road ahead to recovery and are hoping their happy little girl gets better soon!
