For both the friends and fans of Ellie Sadler, we all know she’s the most hilarious person you’d ever hope to meet with a trademark wit that is only surpassed by her big heart. A champion of animals and the people who love them, Ellie - also known as her cheeky and much-beloved twitter persona “Officer Edith” - now needs our help.
Earlier this month, Ellie was diagnosed with breast cancer and will be having a mastectomy, all the while still caring for her two rambunctious boys with the help of her partner Tomo. After moving to Maryland from San Francisco last year, we are hoping to raise some funds for their family expenses while she is on the road to recovery.
For folks that don’t know, Ellie was with San Francisco Animal Care & Control from 2000 until 2022, and was key in transforming the public’s opinion of Animal Control Officers from “dog catcher” to animal welfare advocate. She did everything – and we mean everything – from reuniting baby raccoons with their mothers to investigating dog fighting rings, helping injured coyotes on the Golden Gate bridge to bottle feeding orphaned kittens. She unabashedly loves the weirdos, advocates for the nameless, and freely offers her wisdom to the people who care for them – both on the streets and in the shelter. And all the while, we’ve been honored to be gifted with her insight, levity, and joy.
It’s time to give her all the love we have received back at a moment where she needs it most. We hope you join us in showing Ellie just how much she means, not just to San Francisco and her friends, but to everyone she’s touched along the way.
