My name is Ellie Smith, I am sixteen years old and I have been racing downhill mountain bikes for just over two years now. I love Downhill mountain biking because it is a fast paced, adrenaline filled sport that is always pushing you to find your limit as an athlete. Over the past two years of racing I have already accomplished acheivements that I never thought were possible when I first started racing. I am currently the Australian Junior national champion and national series winner. This year I am finally old enough to be able to represent Australia at World championships and World Cup level, which I have been dreaming about since I began racing. In 9 weeks time I have the opportunity to travel to Europe to race two world cup rounds in Andorra and Switzerland and also ride in Morzine, France while over there. It would be amazing if it were possible to fulfill my goal of racing and gaining riding exposure and experience in Europe this year.
Racing in Europe and attending World championships in Cairns will not come cheaply. It will cost approximately $7000 for me to be able to race overseas and in Cairns.
Doing well at school and training is very difficult so a part time job is not possible for me at this point in time and after my dads terrible bike accident in 2015 that resulted in a broken neck and months spent in hospital, rehabilitating, money has of course become a lot harder to put towards my racing, especially with 4 kids to care for. With the support from Mondraker Australia and DHaRCO clothing and Rocky trail entertainment I have been able to continue racing at national level this year.
Both of my parents give me their support and wish for me to succeed with my dreams but realistically, don't have the kind of money needed to fund my trip to Europe and Cairns.
I would really like to overcome this financial obstacle, which is the only thing holding me back from realising my dream of racing in Europe and hopefully making it onto the podium at world cup level. I almost gave up hope that it would be possible for me to race in Europe this year, but my hope has been restored now that I have been given the opportunity to go over with support. Some friends and family have recommended that I start up this Go Fund me account to help me raise money and get me closer to my goal.
It would mean the world to me if any of you, whether it be friends or relatives, could spare even a dollar towards my cause and share around my dream to as many people as possible. I hope to represent Australia and all of the people who have helped me out along the way this year, at the highest level possible and with your guys help it might just be possible.
