Ellie's cancer treatment

Donation protected

*UPDATE*
Ellie has bounced back from her surgery quicker than the vet had expected.  She was devouring anything she could the nexy day.  Over the last week, she's mostly returned to her pre-surgery self but the biopsy results came back that it was indeed melanoma and this was the worst possibility.  She will be starting a 4 part vaccine next week that has had a high success rate in treating canine oral melanoma.  So this fund will be remaining open.

Ellie is supposed to be enjoying a well-earned retirement from being a therapy dog, but the vet confirmed a cancerous tumor in her mouth with surgery being her only chance.

Ellie is a rescue dog that, despite a history that points towards neglect and possible abuse, has gone on to volunteer with people of every possible age and has converted more than a few children who were afraid of dogs into children that couldn't stop petting her (and occasionally wanting to rider her).  Her therapy dog resume includes Summa Health System's WAGTIME program, Kent State Univerisity's "Dogs on Campus" program, Harbor Light Hospice, the Cuyahoga Falls Library Read to the Dogs program and the Battered Women's Shelters of Summit and Medina County where she was the only quadruped allowed in the shelters.  She participated in the Rape Crisis Center's  "Walk a Mile in Her Shoes" walk and raised around $1,000 for the cause (more than I did!).

THE SITUATION:

I noticed a tumor in Ellie's mouth a few weeks back and made a vet appointment.  January 6th is her scheduled surgery date.  She will receive a chest X-Ray to see if anything spread to her lungs and if so, the procedure will not continue.  If not, there is a decent chance for a full recovery.  I am well aware that such an expense for a senior citizen of a dog is nuts, but I also know that there are some people that get it.  I am hoping to reach those folks.

*UPDATE*  Ellie's surgery was very successful and she is busy sleeping and devouring any food that crosses her path.  Her prognosis is pending the results of the biopsy.
