My friend and coworker Mandy Orvis and her husband Jake became proud parents to their 2nd little girl, daughter Ellie Fern, on September 13th, 2016 in Portland, Oregon.
Shortly after Ellie's birth, a pediatrician identified a heart murmur and ordered a full EKG on Ellie's heart.
It was discovered that Ellie was born with two heart defects, an Interrupted Aortic Arch and a hole in her heart.
Ellie and Mother Mandy were transferred quickly to OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital where Ellie is scheduled for heart surgery on Monday, September 19th. While this condition is very serious, doctors are positive about Ellie's recovery. If all goes well, Ellie will be home in about a month.
The Orvis family needs your help to cover costs associated with Ellie's care and to cover the work that Jake will be missing in order to be with his family during this time. Mandy and Jake's oldest daughter, Olivia, is 2 and a half and will be in daycare much of the time that Ellie is in the hospital. It is important that Olivia's routine stay as consistent as possible during this time, and daycare costs are an additional burden.
