Hi! My name is Ellie Moser, and I am 17 years old. According to my mom, I started dancing even before I could walk. By the time I was 5, I was performing with a professional company along with my mom and my older sister. Ballet is in my family, and it is in me.
Even before I started high school, I knew that to achieve my dream of becoming a professional dancer, I’d have to relocate from my home to train. Last summer, after attending Houston Ballet Academy’s Summer Intensive Program for the second summer in a row, I was invited to attend the Academy’s year-round Advanced Program.
Moving away from my home and family was hard, but I love Houston and the Academy! I am honored that I get to dance all day with and be taught by the most amazing teachers. This past year at Houston Ballet Academy I have fallen in love with ballet all over again through being surrounded by some of the most talented young dancers in the world and by being inspired everyday by the professional dancers around me at Houston Ballet.
But such an opportunity also comes at great expense. My family has sacrificed so much for me to have the chance to pursue my dream. Unfortunately, my dad lost his job almost a year ago and has been unable to find employment since then. My mom has had to work her full-time job plus additional part time jobs to provide for the family.
Although the Academy has provided some financial assistance for tuition this coming year, other living expenses such as housing, food, and pointe shoes are not covered. To help make ends meet, I work part time at the ballet company’s boutique during performances and after classes several days each week, but it is not nearly enough to cover all of my expenses. I would be extremely grateful to be able to stay at Houston Ballet Academy for a second year in order to receive the best ballet education possible.

HBA has become my home away from home, and I have learned and improved so much since I’ve been there. Being secure in knowing that I will be able to continue my training here through next year will allow me to progress even more. I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity, and I am thankful for everyone both in Houston and at home who has supported me in my endeavors!
Anything you can do to help me continue my training is greatly appreciated!
