Ellie's campaign for CAVY CORNER GUINEA SANCTUARY
Doncaster based Cavy Corner Guinea Sanctuary based has been rescuing guinea pigs since 2008. During that time Cavy Corner has rescued thousands of guinea pigs and provided them with the love and care that they deserve.
During storm Dennis this year Cavy Corner lost a vital piece of equipment, the external canopy connected to the Hay store. This canopy was used to keep supplies dry and helps to ensure that volunteers have a safe and secure work environment when completing tasks such as cleaning cages, filling hay and bedding buckets.
Since the storm caused irreparable damage to the canopy we have had to use two gazebos instead, which we have to put up and take down during cage cleaning. These are not suitable as they can't be used in wind as not a secure structure, and rain penetrates through, making materials wet and making the job much harder.
The ground of the external work area was affected by flooding last winter and without a permanent covering above the ground becomes sodden. This new structure would greatly improve the difficult working conditions for the volunteers who work so hard to help the animals rescued. Cavy Corner is multi award winning Sanctuary .
Cavy Corner is volunteer run and our volunteers range in age from young children to pensioners, along with providing a safe and secure environment for the guinea pigs we pride ourselves on providing the same environment for our volunteers.
Coronavirus has greatly affected us as we have been unable to hold any of our fundraising events which we rely heavily on, due to this we have been holding fundraising events online, which have helped greatly. Since lockdown we have rescued 159 guinea pigs and this number continues to rise.
