Ellie's battle with spinal tumour

This is our beautiful 10 year old daughter Ellie. In 2015 she was diagnosed with progressive scoliosis and it was determined that she would need a spinal fusion operation. However a routine MRI scan shortly after revealed that Ellie had a large tumour in her spinal cord.
Because of the position of the tumour doctors in Crumlin and Temple Street hospital were unable to perform a biopsy and the decision was made to scan Ellie every few months to monitor any changes.
Due to the complexity of the tumour, doctors in Great Ormond Street Hospital, London were consulted and Ellie met with a neurosurgeon there in November of this year.
They have decided that the best course of action for Ellie is to undergo surgery in London in early 2020 with a view to removing as much of the spinal tumour as possible.
This surgery is not without risk and could lead to lower limb paralysis however this has been determined as the best course of treatment for her.
Over the years friends and neighbours have often asked if they can help us through fundraising and now after four years of travelling to Dublin for appointments and our recent trip to London we have been hit with the realisation that Ellie’s battle is only starting, and so we have decided to gratefully accept their kindness and offer of support.
Funds raised will be used to assist in meeting the huge costs involved in future medical care under neurology and orthopaedic consultants and to cover the costs of travelling to, and staying in London initially coupled with a period of rehabilitation in Crumlin. These services will be required during rehabilitation and long term care for Ellie as she battles to overcome the many challenges that lie ahead. If there are any funds left over following Ellie’s procedures and recovery they will be donated to charity.♥️
