Ellie Needs New Knees
Donation protected
Since late December, Ellie, a five-year-old Shar Pei/Pug/Beagle (I call her a sharpuggle) mix, has been limping due to a poor interaction with one of her dog friends. Since then, she has developed a noticeable nighttime limp in her back right leg. I've visited the veterinarian's office multiple times since the incident, and I was informed that Ellie's issue would likely correct itself over time.
Over the months, I've tried using a leg brace, adding ramps to furniture, and limiting her exercise in the hope that the previous veterinarians were correct.
However, almost a year later, the issue has worsened. Ellie now has a prominent limp in her left leg as well, and she can no longer jump more than half a foot.
Yesterday, Ellie visited a new veterinary office for a leg assessment. During this appointment, it was determined that Ellie will likely require surgery for a cruciate ligament rupture. The estimated cost for the diagnostic workup is £1,000 to £1,750, with an additional surgical expense of £3,500. Apart from these issues, Ellie is a young and healthy dog with no other significant health conditions.
While I work on figuring out the financial aspect, Ellie is receiving daily muscle relaxants to alleviate her discomfort. Unfortunately, medication is only a temporary solution as it will eventually become harmful to her kidneys.
For those who know me, it's clear that my dog, Ellie, is my world. I prepare steaks for her on every holiday, celebrate her birthdays, and spend most of my free time with her. I've never been comfortable asking for help, but now I find myself in a position where I've already invested hundreds of dollars in Ellie's medical bills, and the debt is piling up.
For anyone who may assist Ellie in returning her knees to a young-dog status, I thank you tremendously. I will provide regular updates regarding her treatment and post-treatment outcomes.
Thanks for your time.
