MRI for Ellie

On Wednesday the 5th of April 2023, our beloved and happy/healthy 5 year-old greyhound Ellie was brought to the vets after suddenly developing a limp with obvious pain and a bit of swelling in her right front leg, where she collapsed in their car park and couldn’t get up, nor move much at all from the neck down. We don’t yet have a diagnosis. She is currently in care at our local veterinary hospital in Bathurst, but Ellie’s vet is strongly advising we take her to SASH in Sydney to get an MRI which costs (possibly upwards of) $5000.

Ellie is such an important, cherished member of our little family. We will be devastated to ever lose her, and after I suddenly and tragically lost my beautiful mum just last year I’m honestly not sure how I would cope. Most importantly, Ellie wants to be here. She’s only 5 and full of joy for life.

*There could be further treatment costs after the MRI depending upon her diagnosis, but as everything is unknown for the moment we’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.

Update, Friday 7th April:

Ellie’s condition is still perplexing the vets today. She isn’t any worse thankfully, and does seem to want to get up (but ultimately still gets wobbly and collapses). Her front right leg is now very bruised and swollen, she’s losing some hair and there is some oozing. Our vet is running all the tests he can think of, and 5 other vets have seen her and assessed however there is still no conclusive information about her condition.
