Ellie Lost Her Job

Hey there!

It's Ellie - You probably know me already. Even if you don't you probably haven't heard all about the couple of years I've had.

I moved out on my own after living with my wonderful parents in January, 2020 to Baltimore. I only had a couple of local friends, and was trying to make my life work while working in DC. Things were looking like they were improving after I had surgery in February, 2020, and it looked like it might be "My Year."

Narrator: It was not, in fact, anybody's year.

Like most people, things abruptly changed in March when the world locked down for COVID-19, and it's been a bit of a rough ride. I spent the first couple months of quarantine with a slipped disc, unable to do most things on my own. The stable job I was working in didn't respond the best to the pandemic, and I decided to move on to one that promised me full remote capability, which made me feel infinitely safer. Things were okay until the toxic elements of this new position settled in (a coworker who treated me like their personal secretary, and a general culture of not being able to ask for help without being looked down on, among other things, like chronic inability to communicate).

Along the way, I was dealing with a lot in my personal life - my cats being poisoned by contaminated food for a second time and dealing with changing food and diets, finding out I'd been dealing with a persistent gas leak for the first year of my residency in this property, a couple of instances of car trouble and surprise bills (as well as a couple of places sending me to collections before I even really had a chance to do anything about a payment), and more recently a significant fracture in my local support system.

After I began applying for new jobs in March (following an incident with a coworker), and being put on a PIP for not having my camera on at meetings, my contracting company was informed that we were hired by our client knowing that they would be transitioning to government civilian employees at the end of our Option Year 1, and after several months of showering Indeed and LinkedIn with my resume, following up on a couple of referrals from friends, and my Contract Lead desperately circulating my resume around the company for an opportunity, my employment will end on 7/1/2021 without a new role to move in to. My last paycheck will be sunk into rent and a couple of bills.

I do have a couple of irons in the fire, but they're evidently not on as urgent a timeline to find someone as I am to find work. I'm looking for any kind of financial support to help me get through the next few weeks until something pans out. Any amount you can send my way will go towards getting ahead or caught up on bills, buying food and supplies for my pets, and food and medication for myself. If you can't afford to send anything, please just dedicate some positive energy in my job search. Thank you so much for your love and support.
