Hello!

I am Michaela and my soon to be husband is Billie. We welcomed in the most amazing news Easter morning when a pregnancy test had two dark pink lines. Not expecting this but so very thankful and happy for the news! We kept things between ourselves and family therefore for most this will come as a surprise.

With just separating from the service my only medical coverage is with the VA and as many know that isn't the quickest source to get medical attention. After about two months of waiting we finally were able to go in for our very first ultrasound. What an amazing experience to see little tiny arms moving around and to hear a heartbeat. Everything looked great and we went on to schedule our next appointments. After about another two weeks we received a phone call for the bloodwork and our doctor recommended we came in to discuss. I wasn't sure if this was a routine thing or if it should raise a red flag but I can tell you, we were nervous. After our initial appointment we were referred the same day for a follow on appointment with a Fetal Maternal Clinic where they deal with high-risk pregnancies.

At this point we were unsure what we would be told at this doctor but more testing was done and we came to the conclusion that our little girl has a chance of having Trisomy 18. For those not sure what that means, it is a mutation in the cells that causes severe developmental issues. With that being said, our ultrasounds over the weeks began to illustrate all of the things you read on the internet which began to break our hearts. The development of Ellie's brain, facial structure, and ankles has confirmed among other tests that she does have this condition.

Ellie Grace Ayala has been loved everyday from the day we saw those pink lines on that stick to the day she left us. There is nothing we as her parents or doctors could do to help this situation. It is one of those conditions that there is no outcome that would be a win.

So here we are asking a favor from our friends and family. We are praying and seeking guidance from our Lord but know that we, as two young adults, can only do so much. While we grieve in a time like this the medical bills have began to pile on the desk. I didn't know the VA wouldn't be covering the medical expenses so they come as a shock. Our favor is, if you can help in any way it would mean the world to us. To ease stress while going through a difficult time.

Soy Michaela y mi futuro esposo es Billie. Dimos la bienvenida a la noticia más sorprendente de la mañana de Pascua cuando una prueba de embarazo tenía dos líneas de color rosa oscuro. ¡No esperaba esto, pero muy agradecido y feliz por la noticia! Mantuvimos las cosas entre nosotros y la familia, por lo que para la mayoría esto será una sorpresa.

Con solo separarme del servicio militar, mi única cobertura médica es con el VA y, como muchos saben, esa no es la fuente más rápida para obtener atención médica. Después de dos meses de espera, finalmente pudimos ir a nuestro primer ultrasonido. Qué experiencia tan increíble ver pequeños brazos diminutos moviéndose y escuchar el latido del corazón. Todo se veía genial y pasamos a programar nuestras próximas citas. Después de otras dos semanas, recibimos una llamada telefónica para el análisis de sangre y nuestro médico recomendó que fuéramos a discutir. No estaba seguro de si esto era algo rutinario o si debería levantar una bandera roja, pero puedo decirles que estábamos nerviosos. Después de nuestra cita inicial, nos remitieron el mismo día para una cita de seguimiento con una Clínica Materna Fetal donde se ocupan de los embarazos de alto riesgo.

En este punto no estábamos seguros de lo que nos dirían en este médico, pero se hicieron más pruebas y llegamos a la conclusión de que nuestra niña tiene posibilidades de tener trisomía 18. Para aquellos que no están seguros de lo que eso significa, es una mutación en las células que causan graves problemas de desarrollo. Dicho esto, nuestros ultrasonidos a lo largo de las semanas comenzaron a ilustrar todas las cosas que leías en Internet que comenzaron a romper nuestros corazones. El desarrollo del cerebro, la estructura facial y los tobillos de Ellie ha confirmado, entre otras pruebas, que padece esta afección.

Ellie Grace Ayala ha sido amada todos los días desde el día en que vimos esas líneas rosadas en ese palo hasta el día en que nos dejó. No hay nada que nosotros, como sus padres o sus médicos, podamos hacer para ayudar en esta situación. Es una de esas condiciones que no hay un resultado que sea una victoria.

Entonces aquí estamos pidiendo un favor a nuestros amigos y familiares. Estamos orando y buscando la guía de nuestro Señor, pero sabemos que nosotros, como dos jóvenes adultos, solo podemos hacer mucho. Mientras lloramos en un momento como este, las facturas médicas han comenzado a acumularse sobre el escritorio. No sabía que el VA no cubriría los gastos médicos, así que me sorprendieron. Nuestro favor es que, si puede ayudar de alguna manera, significaría mucho para nosotros. Para aliviar el estrés mientras atraviesa un momento difícil.
