Ko Family Recovery

Donation protected
On October 23, 2016, while outside carving pumpkins in the yard at their upstate New York home, a tree limb suddenly snapped and fell in a split second, causing serious injury to Ellee and Langlee, daughters of Judy and Sidney Ko.

The girls were rushed to the Children's Hospital in Westchester, Langlee by helicopter and Ellee by ambulance.

Ellee suffered a broken femur and has been placed in a half body cast to help stabilize and heal that bone. She has been discharged and is staying at the Ronald McDonald House, located on the same grounds as the Children's  Hospital.  She is slowly becoming acclimated to her new lifestyle of a wheelchair and limited mobility for the next few months.

Langlee, however, had a more serious injury involving her brain and skull. She had surgery immediately and doctors are feeling good about the progess she has been making.  She is currently in the ICU, as more brain swelling was expected before it started to get better.  Within the last couple of days, her ventilator and neck brace have been removed and the brain swelling has reached peak.

Langlee has been a fighter throughout the whole process!  She is now awake and slowly starting to whisper some words.  She is still very drowsy and falls asleep easily, but is becoming more and more alert and awake for longer periods of time.  Her hands and feet are moving and she has smiled here and there. She will remain on a feeding tube for a few more days.   Hopefully soon, she will be moving to a rehab facility closer to the family's Queens home.  Langlee's recovery will involve relearning some basic functions such as hand and eye coordination, talking, walking, and  other everyday things that we often take for granted.

The Ko Family is so thankful for all of the support and prayers they have received from family and friends, as well as the room they have been able to stay in at the Ronald McDonald House, keeping the family together while Langlee remains at the hospital.

There is still a long road ahead as Langlee and Ellee continue the recovery process.  There will be many expenses for medical costs, including hospital transportation, hospital fees, medical equipment, rehab, physical therapy and other long time recovery needs. With this campaign, we hope to collect some donations to alleviate some of the financial concerns so that the family can focus all of their attention on healing and recovery.
