Supporting Eliza Through Her Fight With Ewing Sarcoma
Just recently, our granddaughter Eliza was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer called Ewing Sarcoma. Eliza is a bright, beautiful, and spirited 9-year-old fourth grader who loves everything a child her age should—riding her bike, camping with her family, swimming, swinging at the park, and exploring the outdoors. Her best friend is her beloved cat, Binx, and the two were heartbroken to be apart during Eliza’s 10-day stay in the hospital.
Eliza’s journey began with what seemed like a routine ER visit, but quickly turned into every family’s nightmare when doctors discovered she had a collapsed lung. She was admitted to the Golisano Pediatric ICU and transported by ambulance from Oneida Healthcare Center to Golisano Children’s Hospital in Syracuse. After days filled with procedures, testing, and a biopsy, Eliza was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma.
After 10 long days in the children’s hospital, Eliza and her family were given a treatment plan that will span the next 7–9 months. Her care will include chemotherapy, surgery, and possibly radiation. For the first three months, Eliza will travel frequently from her home in Oneida to Syracuse for treatments and clinic visits. Following that, her life will be divided into cycles of two weeks at home with clinic visits, followed by 3–5 days hospitalized for each new round of chemotherapy.
Eliza’s father is her primary caregiver throughout this process. The financial burden of constant travel, parking fees, medical expenses, and potential lost wages will add up quickly over the course of her treatment. Funds raised will go directly toward helping cover these essential costs so the family can focus on what matters most—Eliza’s healing and comfort.
Eliza and her family have a long and difficult road ahead, but they are facing it with courage, love, and hope. Any support—whether through a donation or sharing this fundraiser—means more than words can express. Every contribution will be used to help provide Eliza with the safest and most positive journey possible during this fight.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with Eliza and her family during this incredibly challenging time.
