My name is Elizabeth. I am not one who typically asks for help, but in early November, I began having low abdominal pain, which I thought was a diverticulitis flare-up as I get them several times a year. I reached out to my doctor who confirmed it and put me on antibiotics, which usually help, but not this time. The pain got continually worse and within a week, I was in the emergency room. After some tests, doctors determined it was much more than a flare-up and I needed immediate, emergency surgery. I spent nine days in the hospital and am currently recovering at home – very slowly. My recovery includes at home care three times a week. I will be needing a second surgery within five or six months.

As the bills are starting to roll in, they are far outpacing our income as my husband is retired and on social security. I have been unable to work since early November and most likely won’t be able to until at least June/July 2026.
