Elizabeth's Fund to Kick Cancer's Ass

To know Liz is to know a person who is sassy, energetic, musically inclined [and also an expert movie quoter and broadway showtunes performer], 100% committed to the children and families she serves, intelligent, gutsy, and gritty. I could go on, but let's get to the point!
We are raising funds for our amazing friend who is battling stage two breast cancer. Funds raised will contribute to upcoming treatments and medical bills. Liz explained her situation best in a recent post she made, sharing not only her story but a call to action to all of us to care for our own health and get regular screenings.
We hope you will consider donating what you can to defray the treatment costs of an amazing woman!
I’ve decided that I want to share my story to raise awareness.
I am 36 years old and I am currently fighting breast cancer. Yet the median age of diagnosis for white women in America is 62. And I have no history of breast cancer in my family and after genetic testing, it has been determined that I have no gene mutations. But somehow, here I am. Because being a woman is what puts you at risk of having breast cancer. I am 1 in 8.
In July, I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. I found a lump on my own, had a mammogram and an MRI with the team at Elizabeth Wende. They discovered the cancer had also spread into my lymph nodes. I then underwent surgery and had a lumpectomy and node removal. I am currently awaiting the results of oncotype testing that will determine if chemo is necessary and if so what kind and how much. Either way, I will have 30 radiation treatments over 6 weeks and then 5 - 10 years of medication.
I don’t know why this has happened to me, but if anything can come of it, let me serve as a push for you to care for your own health! Check your boobies. Get your mammogram the minute your insurance allows you to. If your family has any history of ANY cancer, fight to get one done sooner or get a free screening. I caught mine early and have a great support system, but it is still a battle. Cancer turns your life upside down, emotionally, financially, and physically. Please don’t wait.
