They say bad things come in 3's and unfortunately my friend Elizabeth has experienced this in an unimaginable way. In October of 2017 my friend Elizabeth’s dad was diagnosed with Bulbar Onset ALS. Bulbar onset ALS quickly takes over the body and cuts down the life expectancy of the patient significantly. After this diagnosis, the average person lives from about 2 to 3 more years, with expensive medical treatment. Unfortunately Elizabeth’s dad was diagnosed after months of experiencing symptoms, and does not have the means to pay for treatments that could significantly prolong his life. After dealing with this heartbreaking reality, Elizabeth received a shocking phone call in January of 2018, that her mother, Susan LaRochelle unexpectedly passed away due to a heart attack. Being that she was the sole care taker and source of income for the family, the tragedy of losing a beloved mother was mixed with the worry of caring for her father and arranging financial plans. Due to this unexpected loss, Elizabeth’s dad was moved to a 24 hour nursing home to have constant care, leaving Elizabeth to invest time in coming to terms with having to sell her childhood home, and head back to school here, in NYC. Two weeks after returning back to school after mourning the loss of her mother, Elizabeth was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Plainview Hospital due to 2 Blood Clots in her lungs. Her sister in law , Kellie was able to come down and be there with Elizabeth which was a great comfort while dealing with everything taking place. Due to her dads deteriorating condition and the loss of her mom, Elizabeth felt scared and overwhelmed when looking towards a future she could have never imagined. Now she is left with hospital bills, and having to support herself while paying for school. Elizabeth is a strong girl who has dealt with such pain and loss that is unimaginable. The last thing I want her to worry about is financial burdens. We kindly ask you to make a donation to her, and share this page to spread her story. Of course financial help is only a small portion that will aid in the transitions she is dealing with in her life. We ask that you keep her, and her family in your thoughts and prayers, especially as her father comes to the final stages of his disease. We love you Elizabeth, you deserve the love and support you so freely give to others!
