Two weeks ago, on July 1st, our worlds turned upside down. My mother, a seemingly healthy woman, was diagnosed with renal (kidney) cancer. We also found out that it had spread to other areas surrounding her kidney, but we didn't know to what extent. A couple of months prior to this my mom had started to feel fatigued, had a loss of appetite, and was having what she thought was acid reflux. We had a hard time getting in to see doctors because of covid. Around the time she was diagnosed, she also started to have intense stomach pain that stopped her from being able to do anything, especially sleep. On Friday, July 3rd, we decided to check her into the hospital because her condition had gotten to the point where she could barely drink water and wasn't making sense when she spoke. We were desperate to help her, but were also being thoughtful because she doesn't have insurance. My mother has been self-employed for 30+ years running a daycare out of her home. This is her passion and she loved doing, but has always had issues on and off with being able to get affordable insurance. Once admitted to the hospital, it was discovered the cancer was much bigger than expected, at least 15cm in her left kidney and other places that we weren't sure of based off imaging. My mom successfully went through surgery on Thursday, July 9th. They removed her left kidney, adrenal gland, lymph nodes, and other tissues-- and were able to REMOVE ALL THE CANCER!! My mother is about to leave the hospital and start further treatment for her cancer. As you can imagine, this is already very expensive for my parents and it is about to continue to grow. We are wanting to help relieve some of the financial burden from them. We appreciate any amount that you are able to give!
