We (Elizabeth and Lara) are going to be doing a 10,000ft tandem skydive in April 2021 (postponed from May 2020 due to covid-19), to raise money for Mind UK. Our aim is to raise £1000 between us, however any donations over that amount are greatly appreciated and welcomed. All of the money raised from the skydive will go to Mind UK; a mental health charity providing emotional and practical support to people living in the UK with mental health issues.
We have chosen to support this particular charity because, as many of our friends and loved ones will know, we lost our best friend Jen to suicide at the start of November 2019. This was shortly before what would have been her 21st birthday. She was an amazing, sweet, and beautiful girl, who we both had the pleasure of knowing for a number of years. Jen would light up the room as soon as she walked in it; making even strangers laugh with her just by being herself. Even over a year later, it still does not feel real that we will never see our friend again, who made such a huge impact on everyone’s lives. However, we still think of her every day, and miss her more and more each minute. For this reason, we wanted to do a skydive in her memory.
Mind are a mental health charity, who provide help and resources to people with mental illnesses. We have both struggled with mental illness throughout our lives, and understand that there is a distinct lack of funding available to those who need it. Mind have pledged that they won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect. They aspire for a parity of care for people with mental and physical illness, and to de-stigmatise mental health conditions so people are not discriminated against.
Thank you in advance for your support! :-)
Confidential mental health support is available at Mind (0300 [phone redacted] www.mind.org.uk), Samaritans (available 24/7, 116 123 www.samaritans.org.uk), Beat (0808 [phone redacted] (adults) or 0808 [phone redacted] (under-18) www.b-eat.co.uk), and Shout (24/7 text service 85258 giveusashout.org).
