On March 16th, 2021, the Hughes family lost Eliza Hughes; our beloved family member was in a fatal accident while living in Pemberton BC. Eliza was a beacon of love and joy; and this GoFundMe has been started to create a forever standing monument to represent her beauty to those she loved. The vision for this memorial is for the community of Fernie BC to be touched by her spirit in a beautiful setting that reflects Eliza’s love for the outdoors, in the mountains that embraced her for many years.

Donations to this fundraiser will be used to build a memorial bench for Eliza; a site for all individuals to enjoy a comfortable beautiful view sitting with our angel. This bench will be located in the Fernie Family Garden. Donations will also support a community celebration in honour of Eliza. A celebration of life is planned, as a joyous gathering to honor Eliza and her favourite things: family, friends, music, connections, experiences, and love. This will be in Fernie, and we invite those who love Eliza as we do, to join in this celebration. Donations will be shared with relative organizations given as charitable donations in Eliza's name. Organizations supported by this fundraiser will be: the Fernie Family Garden, the BCSPCA, and Last Stand; an organization that supports protection of Indigenous land and ancient trees standing on Vancouver Island.

We celebrate the amazing life of our dear Eliza.

Eliza was born in Fernie BC, August 10th, 1998. She was an adventurous, engaged, and happy child. She excelled in volleyball and track sports and received the Gigliotti trophy for outstanding sportsmanship. She played piano and performed in many recitals; she was a gifted writer and student.

Eliza bravely travelled the globe experiencing new countries and cultures. She loved hiking and the beauty of nature, going canoeing, and skiing. Her adventurous daring spirit guided her through life.

As an individual Eliza’s creativity and compassion shone through. Her ability to bring light and love to her environment was truly admirable. She adored her many wonderful friends and continually gifted her happiness to others.

We remember Eliza’s legacy with loving hearts; struck with despair at the loss of our beautiful daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin, goddaughter, and precious friend.
