My Story
In July, my life took a drastic turn. I began rapidly experiencing debilitating symptoms that evolved into a 30-day migraine, visual disturbances, numbness and drooping in my face, seizures, ischemic chest pain, difficulty breathing, vertigo, and severe tachycardia (at rest). These symptoms brought my life to a halt, making it nearly impossible to function.
After seven ER visits and many medical consultation appointments, I was unofficially diagnosed with Post-Acute COVID-19 Vaccination Syndrome (PACVS) and an unknown autoimmune or neuromuscular disorder (tests pending). I am officially diagnosed with "Long-term Effects of COVID" a.k.a Long COVID and Dysautonomia.
Why I need support:
Dysautonomia impacts my autonomic nervous system, which controls basic bodily functions like heart rate, blood pressure, and digestion. This is in addition to my unknown and undiagnosed neuromuscular condition, which makes it difficult to walk, talk, and complete basic tasks (especially anything with cognitive, emotional, and physical exertion).
Unfortunately, the extent of the specialized care I require is not covered by my insurance, as Kaiser does not have local in-network specialists for these conditions. I was also refused out-of-network referrals because I was told I needed to have my condition for more than 6 months. While I've waited 3 months for treatment, many basic tests have yet to be completed, and my condition is worsening. The complexity of my case means I require a comprehensive and integrated team with deep expertise in dysautonomia and/or long COVID-19 and its effects on new-onset neuromuscular and autoimmune conditions, which involves significant out-of-pocket costs. As a result, at the end of November, I will begin the process of abandoning Kaiser, so I can receive a true diagnosis and receive actual care/treatment.
Your donations will help cover the costs of initial consultations, ongoing treatments, diagnostic tests, out-of-pocket/network specialist care, and essential living expenses. While the exact duration of my recovery is unknown, we anticipate ongoing support will be needed for the next few months. These funds will provide us with the ability to access life-saving medical care while ensuring that we can keep up with basic needs. It will give me the chance to focus on stabilizing my symptoms for a return quicker to a more active life—allowing me to work again, support my family, and continue to contribute to my community (doing the work that I love).
Thank You
