Dear ones,
Wednesday Nov. 20 my beautiful, kind, talented sister died in Toronto after a struggle with severe concussion symptoms and PTSD. She had just turned 39 earlier this month.
My sister means the world to me--she was my first friend, my protector, my own personal clown, a collaborator in curiosity, silliness and art. Elissa dedicated her entire life to music and healing through her musical performances and songwriting, palm reading and Reiki and psychotherapy practice

Elissa is a survivor, known in the Toronto indie music community as Warrior Girl. Her nickname is an emblem of the strength she emanates with her buzzing electric guitar and growling voice. Through semi-sweet grunge songs she champions feminine resilience under the weight of patriarchy, reigniting the riot grrrls’ call to art in the twenty-first century like Courtney Love in all her bruised incarnations. My sister took her pain and the injustice of the world and channeled it into searing music.
In Elissa's honour I would like to make a significant donation to Girls Rock Camp Toronto to ensure that generations of young girls and non-binary and trans youth can access music, its creativity, community and catharsis, at a time when they truly need it.

Music saved my life and my sister's life when we were young teens growing up in small town Ontario. I want to make the life-affirming experience of music available to as many youth as possible.
Since Girls Rock Camp is a Registered Non-Profit and not a Registered Charity, I (Adèle Barclay) will collect the funds and make the donation in Elissa's name in February 2020. Please join me honouring the memory of my dear sister and helping the young ones make the music they need to make to live.
Thank you and take care,
Adèle Barclay
