Elisha and Mariah Garcia Education Fund
Donation protected
My wife, Anne-Marie Huffman Garcia, passed away in the early morning hours of Sunday, January 24, 2021, after a 15-year-long battle with breast cancer. She was 41. She left behind two precious children, who we adopted from Ethiopia as babies in 2009. The kids and I are completely heartbroken, but find peace knowing that Mommy is finally cancer free and resting in the arms of God.
Many people have been asking about this, so here it is. A week before she passed away, Anne-Marie and I talked at length about what type of memorial/fund she would like to have if God chose to take her home. What we decided was that we wanted an education fund for our two children, Elisha and Mariah.
I'm pretty good at subtle self-promotion, but struggle when it becomes blatant, but here we go anyhow. This is what the education fund is for:
1. Continuing the kids' current education
We have been blessed to be able to choose our children's form of education for the past few years. That has included sending the kids to public school, church school, church homeschool, public homeschool (yes, we've tried them all). As a single parent it would be nice to continue to be able to have this choice. No, we don't know what that would look like in the future, but we'll figure it out.
2. College
This is still a few years off for us, but the time to plan is now. We want our kids to receive a college education or go to technical/trade school after they finish high school. Anne-Marie and I both graduated from college and agreed that it made a big difference in our careers and lives as adults.
3. The Garcia family 2022 road trip
It has been a desire of mine for years to take our family on a road trip across America. It will likely take at least a year to plan, so we're saying it's happening in 2022 for now. Anne-Marie and I discussed this as well and she knew that I wanted to show our children that their adopted country of America is a beautiful place with amazing people, regardless of what they hear all around them.
It's my hope that we can find new ways to bond as a family of three and make up for the list of memories that were never made when our vacations were spent in the hospital.
Or send flowers. Or both. Or nothing.
Regardless, thank you all. Anne-Marie was not only everything to me, she was everything you thought she was. She was sweet, brave, kind and strong. It wasn't an act. She really was that special.
(Per gofundme requirements, I must state clearly that all money received will be distributed by gofundme to me, Eli Garcia, on behalf of the Garcia children, for the future use on the three items stated above.)
