Hello Friends. With her infectious laughter and boundless energy, Elise was the epitome of childhood joy. Healthy, smart and with a quick wit, she found herself immersed in playing volleyball, singing Taylor Swift songs, and enjoying every moment of life. Volleyball became a focus of her daily activities and Elise proved to be quite a talented player. However, her world took an unexpected turn when, at the tender age of 11, she was diagnosed with epilepsy.

The diagnosis was a shock to Elise and her family, but they faced the challenge with unwavering determination. Elise's parents, Becky and Charlie, and her older brother Sean, ever supportive, were shaken by the diagnosis. Elise and her family embraced her new reality, learning to manage her seizures with medication and adapting her lifestyle to accommodate her condition.

Life had other plans, however. One of the medications Elise was taking to control her seizures had a rare but devastating side effect – it triggered aplastic anemia, a life-threatening condition where the bone marrow stops producing enough new blood cells. The news was a blow, plunging Elise and her family into a state of uncertainty.

Faced with this new challenge, Elise refused to surrender. She underwent rigorous medical treatment, which included hospital stays, weekly platelet transfusions, insulin injections, and taking sixteen pills a day, with courage and resilience. Her parents and brother stood by her side, their love and support, her unwavering anchor.

Through all of these challenges, Elise's spirit remained unbroken. She continued her education, her thirst for knowledge unquenched. She pursued her passions, her creativity finding expression in art and music. She faced each day with a determination that belied her young age, inspiring those around her with her strength and resilience.

Elise's journey is a testament to the human spirit's capacity to overcome adversity. Her story is a beacon of hope, reminding us that even in the face of life's greatest challenges, the human spirit can prevail.

A Plea for Support

Elise's journey has been a long and arduous one, filled with numerous medical expenses and financial strain. She is now beginning immunotherapy to try and combat the diagnosis of aplastic anemia, but a bone marrow transplant is not out of the question if the immunotherapy treatment does not work.
