On Monday, January 28th my mother, Elise, entered Yale New Haven Hospital's Emergency Department and since then has not returned home.
After going to her Primary Care Doctor that Monday for bleeding gums, blood work was drawn, several bags of RBCs and Platelets were transfused into her, scans were done and a BMA (bone marrow aspirate) and LP (lumbar puncture) were performed on my mom to figure out "what was wrong" with her.
Several days later, on Friday, February 1st 2019 it was confirmed at 59-years-young my mother had just been diagnosed with Leukemia. More specifically, APL [Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia] which is a form of AML [Acute Myeloid Leukemia].
So far, my mom has spent 13 days inside Yale New Haven Hospital. On Saturday, 2/2/19, after placing a central line (Hickmann) my mom began treatment to BEAT her APL. So far, treatment consists of 35 days of a continuous infusion. We are staying HOPEFUL that my mom will not have to be in-patient for the next 5 weeks however if this is what ends up happening and is the safest thing for her we are VERY okay with this plan.
I have created this gofundme as a way to financially help my mom & dad. With me 850+ miles from home and my sister in college it is solely up to my dad to be "Mr. Do It All."
My dad will be continuing to work full-time, all while taking care of the inside (and outside of our house), taking care of Callie, taking care of my mom (visiting her at Yale, taking her to and from clinic appointments for treatment, etc). I am BEYOND thankful that my mom has my dad but I am creating this gofundme for a way for others to help too :)
So many of you have reached out to me and my family and we are **FOREVER thankful & grateful** for all of your positive words and prayers (keep them coming!) And so many of you have asked how you can help.
I am asking for help financially. Hearing the words "you have cancer" or "your wife has cancer" or "your mom has cancer" or "your sister has cancer" or "your friend has cancer" are words NO1 ever wants to hear. During this time I want my parents to live as "stress-free" as possible I want them to focus on what matters most: our family, their health, their friends and their life. Therefore, if I could help them in any way it's financially: not having them stress over medical bills, prescription prices, travel expenses to and from the hospital, etc.
I never thought I would be the person to ask for a monetary donation but then again I never thought I would say the words "my mom has cancer." So if you can help in anyway, we appreciate it. No amount is too little and please do not feel obligated to donate. Again, I am sending a HUGE T-H-A-N-K-Y-O-U to all of you for taking the time to read this, sending your well wishes, and all of the prayers.
“Cancer may have started the fight....but SHE will FINISH it"
I LOVE YOU MOMMY! YOU GOT THIS! STAY STRONG, XOX!
