Elisa Baker - Creating Memories
Elisa Baker first started noticing symptoms in December 2019 but was only recently diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Motor Neuron Disease (MDN).
ALS is a neurodegenerative neuromuscular disease that results in the progressive loss of motor neurons that control voluntary muscles. ALS is the most common type of MND. Many doctors use the term Motor Neuron Disease and ALS interchangeably. Cause, unknown. Cure, there is none.
Elisa is a beautiful 31-year-old woman who is married to Daniel and has two children Hudson (7) and Ivy Rose (4). Elisa and her siblings grew up in Batemans Bay and her family have been a part of our community for many years. Due to her symptoms, Elisa has had no choice but to give up her successful business as a hairdresser, leaving Daniel as the primary breadwinner.
I met Elisa about four weeks ago and was immediately drawn to her strength as well as her fragility. I listened to Elisa tell her story, having recently lost my brother, I remembered my two nephews devastation and grief, two strong men who lost their father suddenly and too soon, my nephews father was by their side as they grew and became fathers of their own, but his passing will always be still far too soon for them both. I looked at Elisa and thought, this is so unfair, she will miss out on so much of her children's futures. I decided if I could help I would, as a community I hope we can come together and assist this family. Elisa deserves some time with Daniel and the children, to breathe, have some fun and create special memories which all the family can look back on in years to come, smile and reminisce.
I will be shaving my head on the 21st of August to raise money for Elisa, anyone else who would like to join me and do the same can.
