Eli's Emergency Care: A Family's Plea

Hello, my name is Alan. I've never made one of these nor have I ever reached out for help, but times are tough, and our world was completely turned upside down ... My family and I recently experienced a medical emergency with my youngest son Eli. He is only 6 months old. I am also wanting to bring awareness to this matter as God forbid it can happen to someone else. Last week our family caught the infamous Covid virus. We all had a minor flu and recovered quickly. Fast forward 3 days later, over the weekend our youngest son Eli had also contracted the virus. Unfortunately, it hit him differently. Long story short he ended up with a very high fever and as time progressed, he just got worse. Later he stopped breathing. We did chest compressions/ cpr and after some time it worked. So, we had a very short time window to rush him to the ER here in Lodi after that before it happened again. Internally he was starting to swell up and that is what made him stop breathing. As time went on the inflammation was getting worse and his chances in surviving were looking slim. Lodi ER did not have the resources he needed for treatment, so they needed to do an emergency transfer via Helicopter to Children's Hospital a few hours away in the Bay area. And to wrap this all up with a bow.. It was also on the same day as our oldest son's birthday. With much praying and support and with the great staff and treatments at the Children's hospital. I am very happy to say that Eli will be making a full recovery. They said if we hadn't been proactive and quick about admitting him into the ER.. He would have not survived the virus. It is surreal to know we almost lost our son twice and that he fought hard for his life the last few days at the ER. Unfortunately, we aren't out of the weeds yet.. As you can imagine 2 helicopter rides, two different hospitals and numerous treatments in the California healthcare system is not cheap. On top of that I have not been able to work since this happened since I had to care for my oldest son and drive 4 hour round trips to the hospital. This hardship affected my family, physically, emotionally and financially. This is why I am coming together with our community and our network to ask for help. We have never asked for anything and have always worked very hard for the little we do have so this is very new to us. This has been a very humbling experience and has taught us a lot and what is important in this life. All I ask is if y'all can please share our story. Parents, please be careful out there. Covid is spiking again and can bring a horrible event such as this one. I pray that no one ever has to go through this. Any sized donation will go a long way for us. We are truly grateful for anything that we may receive in our time of need. Thank you and I hope y'all have a blessed day.
