The Harwood Heights Police Department is sorry to inform of the sudden passing of one of its own. On 7/4/2022, Auxiliary Officer Elio Di Maio #113 suffered a medical emergency, which took him away from us way too soon.

Elio was a full-time auto mechanic and started his law enforcement career at the Harwood Heights Police Department in 2017. Throughout his time as an auxiliary officer, Elio served the department with pride, assisting in the department's training program and connecting with his peers and the community.

Elio married the love of his life, Sarah in 2018. On Father's Day (2022), Elio began sharing the joy with his co-workers and friends that he and Sarah were expecting their first child together in January of 2023.

On behalf of Elio's wife, Sarah and with her permission, The Harwood Heights Police Department FOP Lodge #172 is establishing this fundraiser to support her with family expenses.
