On the morning of February 1st, we received a call that no family ever wants to get. " We have Elijah here in our ICU, and he has been in a critical car accident this morning." After we received that news, it felt like forever before they got back to us with an update. In time, we would find out that our buddy boy was T-Boned by a utility truck that ended up totaling his car. The Jaws of Life were needed to extract him from his vehicle and they needed to Flight for Life him to the nearest trauma center in Neenah, Wisconsin.
The E.R. Doctor then called and gave us the update that everyone wants to hear after such a horrible accident; "He is going to be alright." We were greatly relieved! Eli had a mild traumatic brain injury, 5 broken ribs, 2 complicated pelvic fractures, several facial lacerations and a lacerated spleen. Be he was going to be okay. God protected him. Praise Him.
While hospitalized at Theda Clark Trauma Center, Eli had surgery to repair the facial lacerations and was given a non-weight bearing status to allow his pelvic fractures time to heal. He was admitted to their rehab unit for further healing and prescribed PT, OT as well as Speech Therapy.
To add to the enormity of the situation, 2 months before the accident, Eli turned 26 and that meant he was not covered under his mom's insurance. Although since then, he has been approved for assistance. The money raised will be used for his ongoing expenses as well as care.
Eli will not be able to work for quite some time, and has very little savings. While we know that times are tough for everyone, we would love and appreciate any donations that are possible towards the ongoing expenses for his care. Thank you for reading and we deeply appreciate you,
