Elias House Fire

Hello all. Thank you for keeping up and for contributing this year! Our goal is still short but there is lots more work and time to get there.    Elias is collecting and peeling vigas (roof beams) from the forest in Chilili. (There was a giant fire out there this year as well and lots of wood collecting if you are from that village.)

The top pic was taken awhile back and since then all the burned logs have been removed as well as the underfloor. The second pic is the house before the fire and the last, sadly is what it looked like on Oct. 16. I have some new pics and updates coming.

Here is the whole story.

My son Elias and his family suffered a fire in which their mountain home was completely burned to the ground. Elias, and his life companion, Laurene, and Elias' twin sons, Ragi and Sepha were uninjured, along with one slightly scorched chicken(recently renamed the Armageddon chicken because she also survived both a bear and a raccoon attack. )Elias 'daughter Maia also lives in the home but has been away on an art scholarship. 


Their house in a small village in the East mountains of New Mexico had been a stone home that was built by the Griego family in 1883 as part of a homestead property. Over the years the house had been equipped with radiant heat, a second (wood) story, and numerous creative additions thathad turned it almost into museum of natural history and art. The family thrives by making jewelry, blowing glass, printing fabric, catering, and learning new inventive ways to bring joy and art into the world.


They are getting love and support from their family and neighbors. What they need now is the ability to rebuild a place to live, fill it with tools and a chance to support themselves again.
